AREA RUG CLEANING METHOD AND STEPS WE FOLLOW

We work with oriental rugs, Persian rugs and carpets, Navajo rugs, other handmade area rugs, mechanically produced area rugs, piled or flat-woven kelim, soumak and tapestry. Although there are maintenance and care guidelines you should follow at home (see our Rug Care Guide) we don't recommend washing your rugs at home, use steam cleaning or dry cleaning methods whether at home or off-site by those offering these cleaning services.

Deep dusting is an important step in the washing process and is not included at cleaners offering on-site surface washing, low moisture, steam or dry cleaning and other non-water immersion rug cleaning services. This is also an important reason why one should not clean their rugs at home. If fine, dry dust and grit trapped deep in the fibers is not removed and water or any moisture is introduced in cleaning, a damaging cycle of mud - dried cake – loose dust starts deep inside that result in pre-mature aging and possible foundation damage in the future. This cycle may also be a source and cause for allergies and other health issues.

Our rug cleaning is done at specialized rug washing plant. Other than getting your rugs their cleanest possible we can also look into any issues, concerns and remedies for:

  • Stains from organic or non-organic sources
  • Pet urine stain
  • Pet urine odor
  • Color run / dye bleed
  • Mildew stain and odor
  • Stain, odor and foundation weakness caused by moisture

Here are the general steps we take when servicing your rugs:

AT OUR WORKSHOP

  • Examine to identify type, origin, fiber content and condition to determine the appropriate cleaning steps
  • Label every rug to identify owner, date of service, rug type and description.
  • Determine pre-cleaning security for older rugs that may have frayed spots, loose ends, weak areas, holes or other concerns.
  • Check for stability and fastness of dyes
  • Notify cleaning crew with specific instructions and conditions.

AT CLEANING PLANT

  • Completely remove deep dust, soil and sand prior to washing using the most current methods available today.
  • Apply pre-treatment for stain removal.
  • Hand wash every rug.
